Waiting on the shoreline for the small boat to arrive
It’s freezing but I’m praying for the chance of a new life
The smell of fear is palpable as the risks are all too real
But desperation overrides any caution I may feel

I need a lucky break & it feels way overdue
I really want to make it after all that I’ve been through
There are many people who don’t respect our plight
But they don’t know what it’s like to be without hope

My life is in the balance in this flimsy craft
At the mercy of the elements on a tiny raft
Far too many souls aboard, all fleeing the life of an animal
Life savings paid away in one massive last-ditch gamble

I really need a break & it feels way overdue
Please let me survive this after all that I’ve been through
I know that many people just don’t care about our fight
But they can’t imagine life can be without hope

I hold my breath as I see the storm approach…
