about

Inspired by the TV drama series “Dopesick” – which told the tragic story of the US opioid addiction crisis

lyrics

Holding on to what they saw as legitimate reward
Defending their endeavour as a mental health accord
Feigned blindness to what they could clearly see, a tragic case of inhumanity
History in black & white – a transparent case of unashamed greed

Darkest motivation of a monetary kind
Preying on the vulnerable & their deeply troubled minds
Lingering injustice right now, families still grieving right now
A masterful performance conscience-free, exuding abject immorality
Blaming the ‘abusers’ – the irony was there for all to see
Perhaps a cause more plausible was corporation sociopathy

The never-ending search for the truth – well it’s out there
An unturned stone, new places to look – yes it’s out there
The never-ending search for the proof – it’s out there
Now is not the time to lose hope – ‘cause it’s out there

A story that will only break your heart – a story that won’t end
You feel it in your soul – the needless loss of life
You can’t escape the pain of lives taken prematurely
Don’t give up – ‘cause there’s surely more, more that can be done
The anger lingers on, the feeling of injustice can’t be suppressed, a driving force for good
You know it’s only right – determination & the belief & the hope that justice will prevail

Holding on to what you saw as legitimate reward
Defending your endeavour as a mental health accord
Manipulated science did prevail, dosage on an exponential scale
Blaming the ‘abusers’ – hypocrisy was there for all to see
It seems a cause more plausible – unadulterated sociopathy
Feigning innocence to authorities, defending what should be illegality
It’s all down there in black & white – transparent & unashamed greed
And the sad & darkest irony – the addiction here was wealth – it’s plain to see
